"Beauty Lies in All Colors"

Photo of a stained glass window in the stunning Liverpool Cathedral in Liverpool, England's 5th most populous city. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Liverpool, carving out some time to visit both the Liverpool Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Liverpool are a must.

Behind the Photography Scenes:

No matter how good the camera, no camera sensor can capture the entire range of light to dark, while preserving both highlight and shadow detail. (That is, if you expose for the light areas, then the camera sensor won't pick up detail in the shadow areas, and vice versa.) Therefore, when photographing a still subject that is both very dark and very bright (like this stained glass window, where inside the church was very dark but the window was very bright), I sometimes use high dynamic range (HDR) imaging. To capture this piece, I shot multiple photos using the same low ISO and aperture, but varying shutter speeds, in order to create a range of exposures. I then combined four of the images using HDR and tone mapping software to create this final photographic art piece.
