Bororo Pride

Photo of a Bororo Fulani (also called Wodabe or Wodaabe) boy at the 1997 annual Wodaabe Fulani festival between Maradi and Agadez in Niger, West Africa

Jewelry worn by the Wodaabe Fulani is interchangeable between men and women. This boy also wears a small, low-hanging mirror around his neck.

The Wodaabe Fulani are easily distinguished from the other Fulani sub-tribes - their hairstyles and dress are completely different, and even customs differ. They are very proud of their traditions; in fact, one of their sayings is: "No one can change a Bodaado; a Bodaado will change other people." ("Bodaado" is the singular form of "Wodaabe.")
