SOUTH SUDAN

Photo of a "bad patch of road" between Mundri and Rumbek (the interim capital of South Sudan) in 2005. These container trucks are carrying supplies from Uganda into South Sudan.

In 2005, it could take up to 1 1/2 days to drive 150 miles. This is a major throughfare for traffic beween South Sudan and Uganda. Yet, after generations of civil war, South Sudan has only a few kilometers of paved road.
