10/27/07
The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), the former South Sudanese rebel group, withdrew this month from the north-south coalition government, giving a deadline for the Khartoum government to implement the outstanding provisions of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed between the two parties in January 2005.Shortly afterwards, the international multimedia news agency, Reuters, picked up five of Irene's South Sudan photos for display in their weekly picture showcase. View the slideshow on the Reuters website - pictures #11-15.

A Spring View
Though a country be sundered,
hills and rivers endure;
And spring comes green again
to trees and grasses
Where petals have been shed like tears
And lonely birds have sung their grief.
... After the war-fires of three months,
One message from home is worth a ton of gold.
... I stroke my white hair. It has grown too thin
To hold the hairpins any more.
